Building a successful supply partnership with Wells Tobias

Guidant Group’s Head of Supply Chain and Contracts Management Ben Weston interviewed our strategic partners Joe Wells and Adam Tobias of Wells Tobias to find out what makes our 12-year supply partnership so successful. Here’s a summary of their conversation:
 
 
 

Tell us about the history of Wells Tobias:

We’ve been friends for almost 30 years! We started the business 12 years ago. We both had successful recruitment careers before we set the company up and set out to create the recruitment company that we would ideally want to work for. We’re based in Holborn in London from where we service our clients across the UK.
 
 

Which sectors do you specialise in?

We consider ourselves to be a head office specialist recruiter so we provide a lot of the support functions that all large businesses need. That includes office support, legal, marketing, digital, projects, change management, business transformation, procurement and HR. Our consultants have an average of 10 years’ experience in their specific sectors and have therefore developed excellent specialist networks during that time.
 

What are the key values that run through your business?

First up, helping one another. We have shared goals and we believe massively in teamwork and supporting each other. We also try to have empathy, to listen and understand the needs of our clients and candidates and to put ourselves in their shoes. This personal approach really helps us to provide solutions to their problems.
 
Taking action, proactivity, professionalism, hard work and being proud of the work we do are also key to our success.

How long have you been a partner of Guidant Group?

We’ve been working with Guidant for almost 12 years and are very pleased to say we were Guidant’s first strategic partner.  

How do you help us to provide our clients with the top talent they’re looking for?

The ability to access hard to find talent is key. Our consultants are very experienced, highly trained and skilled individuals. We also take a very candidate centric approach to our business and spend a lot of time and effort engaging our talent communities. Our candidates are the lifeblood of our business.

Do you support other managed services businesses?

Yes, we support a number of other managed services businesses.
 

What makes an MSP attractive to Wells Tobias? 

Firstly it’s important to say that we are also selective about the MSPs we want to partner with ourselves. Due to the number of specialisms in our business, we are able to provide a breadth of skills to our clients, which they really do value. We only want to work with MSP clients that work in partnership with us and recognise the value that we add to the recruitment process.

How would you say your partnership with Guidant Group is different?

It’s very different. We have partnered with Guidant for 12 years and during that time we’ve developed exceptionally strong relationships with many of the on-site teams. We understand their requirements. It’s a true long-term strategic partnership based on relationships, knowledge and trust.

What are the key benefits of working with Guidant Group?

We like the high quality client brands that Guidant enables us to work with and appreciate the volume of roles that come through. Again the trust and transparency between both parties makes it an enjoyable relationship. Guidant’s onsite teams know us and value our specialist expertise. They often come to us to ask for advice on our specialist markets such as salary expectations and market trends. We aren’t simply there to provide CVs, we are there to consult.

Have there been challenges during your partnership with Guidant and how did you manage to overcome these?

The length of time we’ve worked together means that we can never get complacent. We are driven every day to deliver the exceptional level of service that Guidant demands.

What would your advice be to other recruitment providers keen to work with managed service providers?

Firstly you need to be able to engage difficult to find and passive talent to help the MSP fill their clients’ skills gaps in a timely manner.
 
You will also need to deliver a high level of service every day and have robust systems and procedures in place to ensure compliance across our partnership. We have a number of contractors that work through Guidant and it's absolutely imperative that they are compliant. Guidant conducts regular audits to ensure that’s the case and to make sure we’re performing to the expected standard.
